The 76 year old king of beach and boat music passed away Friday, September 1 from a rare form of skin cancer he battled for 4 years. Buffett had Merkel cell cancer, according to the statement, which was posted after initial news of his death emerged Saturday. The statement also disclosed where the “Margaritaville” singer died: at his home in Sag Harbor, New York, near the Hamptons.
“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1 surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs,” said a statement on his website.
“He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”
Buffett had a decades long history of songs which focused on beaches, sailing and a toes in the sand lifestyle. He had a huge following of Parrotheads, an assortment of people dedicated to a carefree beach and boating lifestyle.
