As the Ellen MacArthur Trust Skandia Round Britain Voyage of Discovery makes its way around the country, also supported by communications partner BT, Ellen is giving public talks at many of the key stopover ports whilst Scarlet Oyster is in dock. Since the voyage started in May, Ellen has spoken to audiences in Brighton, Dover, London, Hull, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
This is the first time Ellen has embarked on a public-speaking tour since her world record-breaking circumnavigation in 2005. She is enjoying sharing stories about her amazing and varied experiences at sea, as well as talking about her work with the Ellen MacArthur Trust and her plans for the future.
Ellen was back in ‘racing mode’ for the JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race onboard the BT IMOCA 60 and was delighted with the result. “It was great to be out on the water again racing especially with Seb and the crew onboard BT. The race is a classic one – it always amazes me to see that many boats racing on the same piece of water! Seeing Francis Joyon’s IDEC glide by certainly bought back some other memories as well!” [Note: Ellen broke Joyon’s solo round the world record in 2007, then in 2008 he took the record back onboard his new and faster IDEC trimaran].
