As the sailing season winds down in North America, US SAILING members can play their part in the sport’s history by submitting a nomination for the top American sailors of 2010. US SAILING is now accepting nominations for the 2010 Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year awards, which recognize one male and one female sailor for their outstanding individual achievements on-the-water at national and/or international events during the calendar year. They are widely viewed as the nation’s foremost sailing distinction.
By making a nomination, you are automatically entered to win two tickets to the Awards Ceremony on Friday, February 25, 2011, in the Model Room of the New York Yacht Club in Manhattan, with travel and accommodations provided by Rolex and US SAILING.
A slate of nominees, determined by the membership of US SAILING, is presented to a panel of accomplished sailing journalists, who together discuss the merits of each and then vote to determine the ultimate winners. Nominees must be U.S. citizens who are currently eligible to represent the U.S.A. in international competition.
Established in 1961 by US SAILING, these esteemed awards have been sponsored by Rolex Watch U.S.A. since 1980. Bora Gulari and Anna Tunnicliffe, winners of the prestigious distinction for 2009, were the latest additions to the list of legendary winners that includes Betsy Alison, Paul Cayard, Dennis Conner, Courtenay Dey, JJ Isler, Allison Jolly, John Kostecki, Buddy Melges, Ken Read, Cory Sertl, Jody Swanson and Ted Turner. Many of these sailors won a world championship, Olympic medal, class national championship or US SAILING championship.
