That’s the impression I got from the Team SCA’s visit to Newport, Rhode Island one year before they are due come barreling in during the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 .   Watch out guys your going to have one heck  of a fight on your hands. These women are not just out there to be in it…They are out there to win.  If determination is any indication they will be seeing some podium finishes.

Each of these women crew members are individually fine racers in their own right, with impressive accomplishments on their own.  Combined they are a powerhouse.  They plan to give every ounce of effort to win the Volvo Ocean Race and prove they are all a force to be reckoned with.  They spent the last two weeks crossing the Atlantic and honing their skills as a team.

Team SCA is the first of a line on Volvo 65 boats that will be coming to Newport in the coming weeks as they prepare for the fall start of the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15.    While in Newport  they gave of themselves and met with the next generation of sailors by visiting local elementary schools and inviting local high school girls onboard for a look at the life of a woman in the Volvo Race.

Brad Read, Head of the North American Stopover for the Volvo Ocean Race, welcomed the Women of Team SCA  and the rest of the SCA family to Newport and presented them with a vision of what is to come as Fort Adams prepares to welcome the whole fleet to the only North America stopover.

Team SCA also did some sailing about in Newport  on their Volvo 65, giving a taste of what is to come next May.

Team SCA will be setting sail Thursday to go back across the Atlantic to Spain to finish their preparations for the start of the race. Thanks for the visit Team SCA and we look forward to your return to Newport next year. Hopefully, not to sound biased,  in the lead.
